The Baker Clause comes into force – January 2018

This week sees the Baker Clause become law.

What does this mean?

It has implications for both schools and colleges.

The former Education Secretary Lord Baker proposed an amendment to the Technical and Further Education Act which became law in May 2017. This amendment was approved and becomes law this week.

It says "From 2 January 2018 all local authority maintained schools and academies must give education and training providers the opportunity to talk to pupils in years 8 to 13 about approved technical qualifications and apprenticeships" and that "schools must have clear arrangements in place to ensure that all pupils have opportunities to hear from providers of post 14, post 16 and post 18 options at , and leading up to important transition points"
